I chose to read this book because I love its reviews here. But still it took me a week to finally decide to start reading this book. The genre is sort of not my favorite one right now. And I REGRET taking too long to read this book because it was AWESOME! Oh, let me rephrase that, it’s FREAKING AWESOME! Okay, lets dive into the story. It’s about Sophie, a rich spoiled BUT not loved brat who got sentenced to do community service tending to Ugandan kids in Africa due to her illegal activities (cocaine!). There she met the gorgeous WHITE African, Ian Aberdeen. And I guess you can guess what happened next ;) Although some may find the love story is quite cliché but the story of the Ugandan kids are NOT! And the love story kind of develops uniquely around them.
Sophie’s vain.Someone’s house was always open some random weekend because all our parents traveled frequently, mine especially. In fact, almost every other weekend, the party was at my home. This isn’t why I ruled the roost, so to speak. It wasn’t even because I was the wealthiest. My dad was only number four on that list. No, I ruled because I was the hottest.” – Sophie.I did find myself building tears in my eyes while reading bout Sophie’s life. “A single tear ran down my cheek and I grimaced. Not now, I thought. I was my own worst enemy. That was my secret weakness. Rejection. Rejection of any kind, in fact. I hated it more than anything.“You’re too beautiful to be rejected,” I told the reflection in front of me, but the tears wouldn’t stop.
She was rich and spoiled but she was broken too. She hurt others but she was hurt too. One thing for sure, she craves attention. My mother and father were so absorbed in themselves I don’t think they remembered me some days. I was born for one reason and one reason only. It was expected of my parents to give the impression of a family.
Timidity was the farce. If I looked sweet and acquiescent, my father gave the impression he knew how to run a home as well as a multinational, multibillion-dollar business. If I did this, I would get a nice little thousand-dollar bonus. I was an employee, not a child.
Freedom is just that. Absolutely no restrictions. I abandoned myself to every whim I felt. Every want I fulfilled and every desire was quenched. I wanted for nothing. Except attention.
And then she met Dingane or as I prefer to call him, Ian.Struck. Speechless. A deep, punching sensation washed over my entire body and I almost fell to my knees at the powerful impression. My breaths became labored and I fought for a clear head. A balmy, scorching but unbelievably ecstasy-ridden awareness swam through my body. An exhilarating, pleasant haze settled over me and it...Burned. So. Good. This was a feeling of realization. I stood there, relishing the effects.
But he was a bit rude at firstDingane rushed me in that moment and the movement stole my breath away. He loomed over me and I fought to keep my mouth closed. “Girl, you are the epitome of spoiled. I can smell it in your expensive perfume, in the quality of your ridiculous clothing, in the bracelet wrapped ’round that delicate wrist.” He closed the gap between us and all the air sucked from the room. “You won’t last out here. You’ll stay blind to the environment that surrounds you. You’ll live in your clean, perfect bubble and return to your posh life come six months. You are....you. I know your kind. I’ve seen it all before. You will never wake up. Not really,” he explained away before backing up and leaving me to my room once again.
However, although at first he was a bit of a jerk, Ian Aberdeen aka Dingane is just as flawless as a guy could get lol dreamy!
And he was cute too lol“I was merely explaining that Henry was exaggerating. I did not stare at you.”“Okay,” I stated, implying in my tone that he had done just that.“I didn’t. I-I wasn’t.”“I believe you,” I told him.“I may have looked at you a few times to make sure you were doing your job.”“Oh, I see then.”“But I certainly wasn’t staring.”“We’ve established that you were not staring.”He breathed deeply a few times, his eyes burning into mine. “Good.”He’d definitely been staring. The butterflies in my stomach fluttered and flew.
And he was extremely adorable :DI yawned loudly at the mere mention of sleep. I leaned my head against the window. “Classes are cancelled for two days after the kids recover. I’m making an executive decision and I’m going to sleep for both of them.”“As long as I get to sleep with you.”My eyes bugged from my head. “Pardon?” I asked in disbelief.Ian stared at me, eyes wide. “I-I just meant...I meant that, uh, that I also wanted to sleep with you.”I laughed out loud.“I mean, not with you but sleep in my own bed during the time in which you also sleep...in your bed. We’d be asleep in two separate beds. You in yours and me in mine.” One of his hands left the steering wheel and ran the length of his face. “God, I’m deprived.” A quick glance my way. “Of sleep! Deprived of sleep!” His hand slapped the wheel. “God, shut up, Din.”I smiled at him softly. “I got you, Ian.” Boy, do I ever.
And he was my hero :D“It’ll be all right,” Ian assured me.“How do you know?” I asked when he revved the engine.“I don’t,” he said, “but I’ll protect you.”My heart began to slow and my breathing steadied...because I believed him.
Okay, lets stop at that since I guess you’ll have to go and read this book like freaking now!!!
